Turin International - July 2015
4 Gold, 2 Silver, a Bronze and a 4th place finish made the Clubs first International competiton for 2 years an event that will be long remembered!
Twenty-two Gymnasts and 5 staff returned from Italy triumphant, having won a remarkable 7 medals, including 4 Gold, at the respected Turin International Acrobatics Cup. The girls found themselves up against 300 other gymnasts from 11 different countries as they vied for International honours over 3 days of intense competition in the heat and humidity of Turin.
With entries at every level of difficulty, many of the gymnasts were also experiencing their first taste of international competition. As such, there was considerable delight when after 2 days of demanding qualification, everyone had secured a place in the Finals.
With 3 Oxford Trio's competing against each other in the Age Group Final, there was intense interest in the results, which ultimately saw Molly Kavanagh, Kirsten Richards and Esme Peal win Gold, with their team mates Katie Martin, Georgia McDermott and Jasmin Hunt making it an Oxford One-Two by taking the Silver. Matilda Marriot, Bella Ekerold and Natasha Hutchinson finished a highly creditable 4th, having climbed a further 2 places from their qualifying position. In the Women's Pairs there was a further Oxford double with Heidi Scholey and Lara Gunnell taking the Silver and Lucy Kavanagh and Ellie Roberts-Day securing the Bronze. The Trio of Abi Woodliffe-Thomas, Aysha Hutter and Samara Chan were determined to add International Gold to the National title they had won earlier in the year and they did not disappoint, performing one of the highest scoring routines of the Event to complete their personal Double. In the technically demanding Junior category, Sophie Newell and sisters Cossi and Elspeth Jackson, who had led the field from the start continued their winning ways and added a third Gold medal to the Teams tally. Finally it was the turn of the Seniors, Becky Evans, Gabbie Jackson and Heather Nixey. Despite being new to Senior competition, the girls held their nerve to win yet another Gold, taking the team's final medal total to 4 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze, the Clubs most successful ever international result!

June 2014  -  3 Partnerships - 3 Medals at the National Finals!

The National Acrobatic Gymnastics Finals took place from 31 May - 1 June with three Oxford partnerships qualifying to compete in this prestigious event by winning their Regional Prelims back in March. As such, they were up against the best in their class from across the UK.

The Competition got off to a great start with Silver medals for our Grade 4 Trio of Elspeth, Aysha and Charlotte, who in their first major competition together, conquered the inevitable nerves and were only just beaten into second place by 9/100ths of a point! Their success was mirrored shortly afterwards by Ashley and Lucy, who also won the Silver medal having given a classy performance in the Grade 4 Womens Pairs.

On Sunday the success continued when Laura and Fiona competed in the Grade 6 (the highest NDP grade) Womens Pairs. Grade 6 requires 2 routines to be performed with the aggregate score determining the final placings. Despite Laura rolling her ankle badly during the warm-up and Fiona having Tonsilitus, the girls produced a great Balance Routine and finished the morning in 2nd place. A strong Dynamic Routine was needed to consolidate their position and the girls appeared to do just that. However, the marks awarded were inexplicably lower than expected and the girls were ultimately just beaten to the Silver, instead bringing home a richly deserved Bronze medal.

Three partnerships competed, three partnerships came home with medals, a fantastic achievement against some of the best in Britain. Congratulations to everyone - it was an exceptional weekend of competition and you did yourselves proud!

Grade 2 Trio take Silver Medal to ensure Southern Region wins Inter-Regional Trophy!

On 3 May, the Grade 2 Trio of Bryony, Matilda and Lara represented the Southern Region as part of the Team entered in the nationwide Inter-Regional Trophy Competiton. Competing against some of the best gymnasts in the country, including those from Scotland and Wales as well as the English regions, the girls gave a fantastic performance, achieving a personal best score of 27.77. In a nail biting finish, the girls just missed out on the Gold medal to their rivals from Southampton, who beat them by just 0.13.
The girls had also been selected as one of the 5 Southern Region partnerships who's marks would count towards the hotly contested Inter-Regional Trophy. Their high scoring performance was crucial to the Regions final points tally and to the delight of the whole team, Southern Region finished in 1st place and are the 2014 Inter-Regional Champions.
Finally, the event also marked the end of the Trio as all of the girls are moving on to new partnerships as they continue their acrobatic careers. It was a fitting way to end a short but highly successful time together. Congratulations guys, you were fabulous!

British Championships - March 2014

Emily, Freya and Grace took part in their last competition together to finish 4th in the tough 11-16 WG category.  The trio gave 3 fantastic performances over the weekend and we are extremely proud of their result, narrowly missing out on a podium place.
The girls have had a successful partnership over the last couple of years and they are all beautiful performers, but it is now time to say goodbye to Freya and Emily who have decided its time to move on and try something new.  Good luck girls :)

In doing so, the Squad won 3 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze, along with a 4th and 5th place against some tough opposition. The significance of the the event, which only allows Gold Medal winners to proceed to the Finals was not missed by the girls, who performed some truly excellent routines, including those who didnt make it into the medals but came agonisingly close.
